How we made this decision
A restriction? Sounds kinky. It was given to me because I am producing content at an incredible rate and posting videos at light speed with info drops and streaming site links. None of it is illegal or against their rules. The speed at which I did this made them think I was an AI, or a farm of AIs, flooding the Insta market with too much cool content. It is not much to untangle once you prove to them you’re human, but the gatekeepers wanted me to know who was the boss in case I got any ideas. “Community Standards” are whatever they want them to be.
This is why the inimitable Vox Day set up Unauthorized (UATV) and migrated to his own web server under his own rule when the demons, crybullies, and wokesters came to cancel him. He would not be gatekept, nor should he be. John Wright, the once-cancelled Grandmaster, set up scifiwright.com to get the word out about his ideas and his books. Yours truly has markvolpe.com—although I do suspect one day Squarespace will come for me, and like Vox I must put in place a migration protocol for the day it happens, to demoralize those who seek to shut me down.
No one is stupid enough to risk lawsuits for outright cancel culture, but they can and will intervene when and if they want to. Alas, I must comply at least a little, as when you say “I could care less” and then imagine the Planck unit of caring less beneath the caring less that you care less presently.
But not forevermore. The work waits, I’m alive at last, and I’m full of joy.
And I would be remiss not to point out that friends who ghost you for sending them too much are soft gatekeeping and should be shown the way to Reddit, down the hall and to the left. How many times have I shown disappointed family, friends and colleagues my oeuvre—my novels, songs, games, plays, Cinderella balls, and music-writing workshops—only to watch insects land on their unblinking eyes at the sheer amount of it. It’s like they were in competition, and just gave up. Some will discuss anything in depth but your work that you hope they will review. Soft Gatekeeping on their end needs the same ghosting, albeit polite ghosting. Always be busy. The busy, busy bee got no time!
